A TESTIMONY OF A BLIND MAN NAMED MR. HEREN HEMROM

God’s love knows no limits, and His Word is for everyone, regardless of ability. Through the faithful efforts of the Bible Society of India, this truth is becoming a reality for many, including Mr. Heren Hemrom.

On the morning of 8th April 2025, Mr. Heren Hemrom, a visually impaired man from Latakel village in the Simdega District of Jharkhand, visited our BSI Ranchi Auxiliary Office. During his visit, we had the joy of presenting him with Braille copies of the books of Revelation and Leviticus. In the days that followed, we continued to supply him with more Scripture: on 16th April, he received the books from Matthew to Galatians, Philemon, Hebrews to Jude, and another copy of Revelation; and on 25th April, he was provided with the books from Genesis to Daniel.

Mr. Hemrom’s life story is deeply moving. At a very young age, he was brought by the police to St. Michael’s Blind School in Bahubazar, Ranchi, where he grew up and continues to live even now. Officially, he is 65 years old now. Since 2019, he has been receiving portions of the Braille Bible through BSI Ranchi Auxiliary, a resource that has fueled his passion for ministry among other visually impaired people. His method of sharing the Gospel is simple yet powerful. In new places, he first reads and tells stories from the Braille Bible. When individuals come to faith in Christ, he organizes Bible study groups to nurture and disciple them. He also faithfully prays for those who are physically, emotionally, and spiritually struggling.

When asked how he supports himself, Mr. Hemrom humbly shared that God provides through the generosity of people who offer him food, help with his travel expenses, and support his ministry work. Through Mr. Hemrom’s unwavering faith and tireless service, the love and power of God are touching lives in Chaibasa town and Kolebira village in Jharkhand.

STORY FROM THE BOMBAY AUXILIARY

A two-day Bible Exhibition and Sale, along with Bible Sunday celebrations, was held at Ambernath Methodist Church from April 26 to 27, 2025. Rev. Clement Christian, Bombay Auxiliary Secretary, preached the Word during the three services for the Telugu, Marathi, and Kannada congregations. We sincerely thank each congregation for their generous financial support and their enthusiastic response to the Bible Exhibition and Sale.

Kannur:

On 9th March 2025, Rev Jacob Antony Koodathinkal, Kerala Axuliary Secretary delivered message at the Church Service at Immanuel Mar Thoma Church, Kannur, and Auxiliary staff conducted a Bible sale and exhibition. The Auxiliary secretary profoundly thanks Rev. Noble Mathew Achen, the Pastor, the committee members, and the congregation for their wonderful support.

Trivandrum:

On 16th March 2025, Bible Sunday was observed, and special offerings were received from Wills Memorial CSI Church, Mangad, Thirumala, Trivandrum, . We are grateful to the Vicar, Rev. Israel Thomas; the Assistant Vicar, Rev. Rajeev John; Mr. J. Mohan Kumar, Church Secretary and BSI Thirumala Branch Secretary and the entire congregation for their strong support of the Bible cause. We deeply appreciate the coordination and sacrificial service of the Regional Coordinator, Chev. Dr. Koshy M. George.

Idukki:

Bible Sunday was observed, Bibles were distributed to students, a door-to-door collection was conducted, and special offerings were received at St. Mathias CSI Church, Chemmannar, on 30th March 2025. We thank Mr. G. Ebenezer, the church worker, along with the committee members and the entire congregation, for their wholehearted support of the Bible cause. Special thanks to Mr. Georgekutty and Mrs. Jessy Georgekutty from Thodupuzha for sponsoring 23 ESV Bibles for deserving students.

Ernakulam:

Rev Jacob Antony Koodathinkal, Kerala Axuliary Secretary shared God’s Word at St. Stephen’s CSI Church, Tripunithura, observing both Bible Sunday and VBS Sunday on 6th April 2025. It was a blessed time of fellowship with Rev. Rejil C. Babu, Vicar and Vice President of the Thiruvankulam Branch, the congregation, and the VBS students. We appreciate the coordination and presence of Er. John Minu Mathew (Auxiliary Committee Member), Er. Suja Anie Mathew (Central Council Member), Mr. Abin Kurian (Branch Joint Secretary), and other leaders of the Thiruvankulam Branch. On the same Sunday, we also had the opportunity to visit Immanuel Mar Thoma Church, Thiruvankulam, and appreciate the outstanding leadership of the outgoing Branch President, Rev. Minoy N. Kuruvilla. We thank God for his remarkable service.

It was a blessed occasion. We appreciate the outstanding coordination by Mr. C.C. Paulson (Chalakudy Branch Secretary), Pastor Johnson N.D. (Branch Treasurer and Convention General Convenor), all the pastors, and the members for their tremendous support.

BRANCH ANNUAL THANKSGIVING MEETINGS

Kannur:

The BSI Kannur Branch Annual Meeting and Thanksgiving Service was held at AG Church, Kannur, on 7th March 2025. Rev. Shiju Varkey presided over the meeting, the Auxiliary Secretary delivered the keynote address, and Pr. K.U. Peter (AG Malabar District Council Secretary) offered his felicitations. Clergy, pastors, and members from various churches graced the occasion. New office bearers and committee members were elected. We highly appreciate the excellent coordination by Mr. S. Bhuvanesan, Branch Secretary, which contributed to the successful functioning of the meeting.

Kasargode:

The BSI Kasargode Branch Annual Meeting and Thanksgiving Service took place at Mar Thoma College, Badiyadka, Kasargode, on 8th March 2025. Rev. Mathew Baby presided over the meeting, and the Auxiliary Secretary gave the keynote address. Rev. Aneesh Thomas, Rev. George Varghese, Pr. Mohan David (Regional Coordinator), and pastors from different churches also attended. Members from various churches participated, and new office bearers and committee members were elected. We are grateful for the effective coordination by Pr. Roji K. Varghese, Branch Secretary, which ensured the success of the meeting.

OVERSEAS VISITORS: Friends from the Bible Society of Northern Ireland

Mr. Robin Tweed and Mrs. Janet Tweed, active leaders and long-time supporters of the Bible Society of Northern Ireland, visited the BSI Kerala Auxiliary on 8th April 2025, bringing greetings from Mr. Wilson Beare, Chief Executive Officer of the Bible Society of Northern Ireland. They have had a longstanding association with the United Bible Societies. Their visit to our Auxiliary was truly meaningful. During a special Staff Meeting held at Bible House, Kottayam, Dr. Sabu T. Thomas, our Auxiliary Treasurer, honored them with a shawl, and the Auxiliary Secretary presented a special gift on behalf of the Auxiliary. We deeply value their love, time, concern, and efforts in visiting the Kerala Auxiliary. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the General Secretary of the Bible Society of India, Rev. Dr. Kavito G. Zhimo, for his continued guidance. May God bless Mr. and Mrs. Tweed and their ministry as they work to spread the unchanging Word around the world.

DIMAPUR AUXILIARY CELEBRATES 40TH ANNIVERSARY

The Bible Society of India (BSI), Dimapur Auxiliary joyfully celebrated its 40th Anniversary on the 12th and 13th of April 2025 at the Dimapur Rengma Baptist Church, Khermahal, Dimapur. The event was attended by Auxiliary Committee Members, Branch Office Bearers, various committee members, and local church congregants, all joining in thanksgiving and celebration.

The commemoration began on 12th April with an inspiring sermon delivered by Rev. L. Timothy Phaomei, President of the BSI Imphal Branch. He delivered a powerful message that challenged the congregation to actively engage in the ministry of the Bible Society, emphasizing that the ministry revolves around the living Word of God—Jesus Christ Himself. The service was uplifted by a special song presented by the New Life Bible College Choir, glorifying the living God. The main celebration was held on 13th April. Rev. Dr. Z. K. Rochill, former Senior Auxiliary Secretary, delivered a heartfelt and encouraging message. He reflected on the early struggles of the Dimapur Auxiliary but praised God for its steady growth and increasing impact in sharing the living Word of God with unreached communities. Special music was presented by the Chakhesang Baptist Church Youth of Dimapur and the Hallelujah Chorus from the Dimapur Rengma Baptist Church, Khermahal, accompanied by the Nagaland Orchestra Team. A special offering was collected by the host church in support of the New Bible House construction. The celebration was truly blessed and filled with gratitude. We trust that God will continue to use the Bible Society of India to advance God’s Kingdom and reach many more with the Word.

ENCOUNTERING THE RISEN LORD THROUGH THE RISEN

(In Memory of Pope Francis, a Pilgrim of the Resurrection)

When I first watched The Risen (made in 2016), I expected a historical drama. What I encountered, however, was a spiritual journey; a journey that not only retold the greatest story ever lived, but also invited me into it. The film, directed and written by Kevin Reynolds, narrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ through the eyes of Clavius, a Roman tribune charged with quelling rumors of a risen Messiah. It is a story not from the pews of the faithful, but from the uncertainty of a skeptical angle that felt fresh and profoundly moving.

Clavius begins as a hardened soldier, trained to suppress uprisings and dismiss faith. His world is one of certainty – of swords, Caesar, and law. But when faced with the mystery of the empty tomb, and tasked with disproving the Resurrection, he is plunged into a search that unravels not just the facts, but his very soul. What struck me most was not merely the film’s portrayal of the events post-crucifixion, but the inner transformation of Clavius, a man whose armor of logic is slowly pierced by grace. His reluctant journey becomes a mirror for many of us. We are reminded that belief often begins not with answers, but with sincere doubts and questions. The risen Christ does not demand blind allegiance; He invites us to see, to touch, and to believe. There is a poignant scene where Clavius finally encounters Jesus alive—a moment of sacred silence, where time seems to stand still. It is not dramatized; it is quiet, tender, and real. As he gazes into the face of the Risen Lord, we too are drawn into that holy gaze. In that moment, Clavius lays down his sword. And I, as a viewer, laid down my doubts.

POPE FRANCIS (1936 – 2025)

As I reflect upon the event of Christ’ resurrection from the dead in the shadow of the passing of Pope Francis on April 21, 2025, on Easter Monday, I find a profound parallel. Pope Francis (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on 17 December 1936) was the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. He was the first pontiff from the Global South and a voice of Gospel simplicity, mercy, and justice. Like Clavius, Pope Francis walked a path not of self-assured authority, but of humility, questioning, and with deep compassion. He often said, “God is not afraid of our questions. He walks with us in them.” His papacy was a living witness to the risen Christ among the poor, the outcast, the immigrant and the seeker. Pope Francis often called the Church to be a field hospital, a place of healing for wounded hearts, not a place to nail the condemned, and not a tribunal for the perfect. And this vision resonates deeply with the heart of The Risen. Both call us to step beyond tradition and into encounter. Both call us to lay down our swords, our skepticism, our pride, our religious rigidity, and look into the eyes of a Saviour who lives.

For the Church and for us at the Bible Society of India, The Risen reminds us why we labor tirelessly in the ‘Word’. We are not merely translating texts or distributing Bibles, but we are bearing witness to the Living Word, the Christ who conquered death.  “We extend an invitation to the modern-day  ‘Claviuses’ and  ‘ Francises’  among us to encounter the Risen Christ, journeying from the shadows of doubt to the light of devoted faith.”

This film, while a remarkable work of art, is even more profoundly a work of witness. In these days marked by both global mourning and enduring hope, I commend the The Risen not merely as a cinematic experience, but as a deeply devotional encounter. May it rekindle our passion to proclaim Christ with unwavering conviction, walking in the footsteps of the faithful who have gone before us.

The Strength of Self-Effacing Virtues in Interpersonal Relationships

As we are in the season of lent, let us meditate upon the important virtues of self-effacing healthy interpersonal relationships in our Christian journey of life.

Interpersonal relationships are the fabric of human society. Whether within families, friendships, workplaces, or faith communities, how we relate to one another defines our character and influences the world around us. The Bible teaches that true strength is found in self-effacing virtues—those qualities that shift attention from self to others. These virtues – forgiveness, graciousness and courtesy, gentleness, and humility -are often misunderstood as weaknesses. However, in reality, they reflect divine strength, maturity, and an unwavering commitment to love and peace.

Forgiveness: The Power to Heal and Restore:

Forgiveness is one of the most potent forces in human relationships. It frees both the forgiver and the forgiven, breaking the cycle of bitterness and resentment. The Bible commands us to forgive, not just as an act of mercy, but as a reflection of God’s forgiveness toward us. Ephesians 4:32 encourages us: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” This Scripture reminds us that forgiveness is not merely a human obligation but a divine calling. Jesus Himself set the ultimate example when, even on the cross, He prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). Forgiveness does not condone wrongdoing; rather, it acknowledges human fallibility and chooses grace over vengeance. In doing so, it fosters reconciliation and peace.

Graciousness and Courtesy: The Beauty of Kindness –

Graciousness and courtesy stem from a heart that seeks to honor others, no matter the circumstances. In a world where harshness and self-promotion are often celebrated, choosing grace is a radical act of love. The Apostle Paul urges believers in Colossians 4:6, “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” This verse highlights the importance of speaking with wisdom, kindness, and respect. A courteous attitude acknowledges the dignity of others, fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and goodwill. Whether through kind words, acts of service, or simply treating others with dignity, graciousness makes relationships flourish.

Gentleness: Strength Under Control –

Gentleness is often perceived as weakness, but in truth, it is strength restrained by love. Biblical gentleness does not mean passivity but rather a measured and thoughtful response, even in challenging situations. Proverbs 15:1 teaches, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Jesus Himself described His character as gentle and humble (Matthew 11:29), demonstrating that gentleness is a mark of divine wisdom and authority. Gentleness diffuses tension, de-escalates conflicts, and nurtures trust. It does not mean avoiding confrontation but rather addressing issues with love and patience.

Humility: The Key to True Greatness –

Humility is foundational to all other virtues. It does not mean thinking less of oneself but thinking of oneself less. A humble heart does not seek recognition but focuses on serving others. Jesus exemplified humility when He washed His disciples’ feet, teaching them that true leadership is servanthood (John 13:12-17). The Apostle Paul echoes this in Philippians 2:3-4, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Humility enables us to listen, learn, and build relationships on a foundation of respect rather than pride. It allows us to acknowledge our own weaknesses while celebrating the strengths of others.

The world often equates strength with dominance and self-assertion, but the Bible presents a different paradigm—one where true strength lies in serving, forgiving, and loving selflessly. Forgiveness heals, graciousness uplifts, gentleness soothes, and humility unites. These virtues do not diminish us; rather, they make us more Christ-like, turning the spotlight on the needs of others rather than our own ambitions. As we cultivate these virtues in our lives, we reflect God’s love and grace, building relationships that honor God and bless those around us. Let us, therefore, embrace these self-effacing virtues, not as weaknesses, but as the greatest strengths we can possess in our journey of faith and community.

Samuel Sanusi, the General Secretary and CEO of the Bible Society of Nigeria, along with his colleague Mr. Yemi Olayiwola, Head of Distribution and Programmes, during their tour visit to India on March 19, 2025. Their visit to the Bible Society of India Central Office was a moment of great joy and fellowship.

The day began with a special morning prayer where both guests were warmly felicitated with a shawl and a memento as a token of friendship and respect. This was followed by a meaningful time of interaction and fellowship with the Heads of Departments at BSI, where ideas, experiences, and mutual encouragement were shared. The conversation was lively, cordial, and spiritually enriching. Later in the day, our guests were taken on a sightseeing tour of Bangalore city, allowing them to experience the local culture and heritage. It was a privilege to host Rev. Samuel and Mr. Yemi, and we thank God for the opportunity to connect and strengthen our bond in the shared mission of Bible ministry.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION on the theme “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment.”

The Bible Society of India (BSI) joyfully celebrated International Women’s Day on March 7, 2025, at its Central Office in Bangalore and across all 17 Auxiliaries in India under the theme “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment.” We are thankful to the DImapur Auxiliary for the wonderful Order of Worship prepared by them .

The event highlighted the significant role of women in society and the Church, emphasizing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. The celebrations included scripture readings, inspiring talks, and prayers for the well-being of women worldwide. The celebration reaffirmed BSI’s dedication to uplifting women and girls, aligning with its mission to serve communities through God’s Word. The Morning Prayer ignited a renewed commitment to advocating for women’s rights, equality, and empowerment in both the spiritual and social spheres.

Annual Bible Conventions

Over the past two months, the Bible Society of India actively participated in various Annual Bible Conventions of different church denominations. The Auxiliary Secretary shared from the Word of God and provided updates on BSI’s ministries.

101^st IPC General Convention, 12^th to 19^th Jan. 2025:

The 101st General Convention of the India Pentecostal Church of God was held at Kumbanadu on January 15, 2025. The Auxiliary Secretary attended the event, which was supported by Pr. Dr. Valson T. Abraham (President, IPC), Pr. Dr. Philip P. Thomas (Vice President), Mrs. Starla Luke (Former Auxiliary Committee Member), Pr. Dr. John K. Mathew (Auxiliary Committee Member & Former BSI Vice President), and other officials. BSI acknowledges the wholehearted support of IPC pastors and congregation members in spreading the Word of God worldwide.

64^th Annual General Convention of St. Thomas Evangelical Church of India, 19^th to 26^th Jan. 2025:

Under the leadership of Presiding Bishop & former Auxiliary Committee member, Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Abraham, and Auxiliary Committee representative, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Chacko, the Auxiliary Secretary attended the 7th-day evening session of the STECI Annual Convention at Bishop Abraham Nagar, Manjadi, Thiruvalla. During the convention, the Presiding Bishop handed over the Bible Sunday donation collected from all their churches. BSI expresses deep gratitude to the Office Bearers and Church members for their prayers and cooperation in spreading the Word of God.

59^th Session of CSI Madhya Kerala Diocesan Convention, 26^th Jan. to 2^nd Feb. 2025:

The event was held at Baker Compound, Kottayam. The Auxiliary Secretary attended the event, which was greatly supported by Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Malayil Sabu Koshy Cherian, Diocesan Office Bearers, clergy, church workers, and members. The convention was further blessed by the presence of former Auxiliary Vice President, Rt. Rev. Dr. Oommen George, and former Auxiliary Secretary, Rev. Dr. Mathew Varkey. BSI extends its sincere gratitude to all for their continued support.

Assemblies of God Malayalam District Council General Convention, 27^th Jan. to 2^nd Feb. 2025 at AG Convention Ground, Paranthal, Adoor:  

On January 31, 2025, the Auxiliary Secretary attended the gathering.BSI extends gratitude to Rev. T. J. Samuel (Superintendent), Rev. Dr. Issac V. Mathew (Assistant Superintendent & former Auxiliary Committee member), Dr. Santhosh John (Auxiliary Committee member), and other officials for their support. During the meeting, the Superintendent handed over the Bible Sunday donation from the Church.We deeply appreciate the Zonal Directors, Presbyters, Pastors, and church members for their unwavering love and support for the Bible Cause.

CSI East Kerala 42^nd Diocesan Convention, 2^nd to 9^th Feb. 2025:

The 42nd Diocesan Convention of CSI East Kerala was held from February 2–9, 2025, under the leadership of Diocesan Bishop & Auxiliary Vice President, Rt. Rev. V. S. Francis. On the 6th day, the Auxiliary Secretary, Auxiliary Treasurer, Dr. Sabu T. Thomas, and Auxiliary Committee member, Adv. P. V. Cherian attended the evening session at MDCMS HS Ground, Chalamattom. The event saw the commendable participation of clergy, evangelists, church workers, missionaries, and church members. The Bible Society of India expresses gratitude to the Church Office bearers and members for their prayerful support of its ministry.

At the 130th Maramon Convention (Feb 9–16, 2025), organized by the Malankara Mar Thoma Church, the Supreme Head & Auxiliary President, Most Rev. Dr. Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan, inaugurated the event. He also visited and blessed the BSI Bible stall, where many Bishops, clergy, leaders, and believers engaged with BSI’s mission. The convention witnessed strong support, with significant Bible sales at Maramon sands. BSI expresses gratitude for the continued partnership and support of the Malankara Mar Thoma Church in spreading God’s Word.

CSI Kollam-Kottarakkara Diocesan Convention, 20^th to 23^rd Feb. 2025:

The Auxiliary Secretary attended the second-day evening session of the CSI Kollam Kottarakara Diocesan Convention at Kollam Convention Center. BSI expresses deep gratitude to Rt. Rev. V.S. Francis (Vice President, Kerala Auxiliary & Bishop in charge), Rt. Rev. Dr. Oommen George (Former Auxiliary Vice President), Office Bearers, Clergy, Church Workers, and the entire congregation for their great support.

Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Mavelikara Diocesan Convention:

On February 20, 2025, the Auxiliary Secretary attended the 27th Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Mavelikara Diocesan Convention inaugural day alongside Mr. Saji Varghese (Regional Coordinator) and Mr. J. Jacob (Mavelikara Branch Secretary). BSI extends heartfelt gratitude to Bishop H.G. Dr. Abraham Mar Ephiphanious Metropolitan, Rev. Fr. Jones Eapen (Diocesan Secretary), Cor Episcopas, Clergy, and all Church members for their great support and encouragement.

BOMBAY AUXILIARY: Various Activities report:

On January 11, 2025, Mr. Paul Stephen, Marketing Director of BSI, visited the BSI Bombay Auxiliary Office, where he encouraged and guided the staff on Bible distribution and sales strategies.

On February 3, 2025, Rev. Clement Christian, Auxiliary Secretary of BSI Bombay Auxiliary, met with Dr. H. G. Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, Metropolitan of the Syrian Orthodox Church.

On February 9, 2025, Rev. Clement Christian, along with staff members, visited Ashish Prarthana Ghar in Vasai Naigaon, a longstanding supporter of BSI Bombay Auxiliary.

On February 21, 2025, the BSI Formation Day was celebrated with staff members at the BSI Bombay Auxiliary Office.

On February 22, 2025, Rev. Clement Christian was invited to a meeting with General Lyndon Buckingham, the General of the Salvation Army.

On March 6, 2025, an Inspirational Leadership Seminar was organized in Mumbai for Christian professionals, in collaboration with Campus Crusade for Christ and Global Leadership

On March 22 & 23, 2025, the Bible exhibition cum sale and Bible Sunday in Panjim Methodist Church Goa.

The Bombay Auxiliary Secretary, along with staff members Mr. Vipul Bhingardive and Mr. Rocky Pattath organized a Bible exhibition cum sale at Panjim Methodist Church from March 22–23, 2025. On March 23, the Auxiliary Secretary preached the Word of God during the Sunday service, we are thankful to Rev. David Livingstone and the Pastorate Committee for their support to the BSI ministry. The Bombay Auxiliary is planning a larger Bible exhibition in Goa to meet the scriptural needs of different congregations in the region.

214th BSI Formation Day – Mary Jones Public Lecture 

The Bible Society of India joyfully celebrated its 214th Formation Day – Mary Jones Public Lecture on February 21, 2025 with great reverence and enthusiasm at the Central Office in Bangalore and across all Auxiliaries in India. This significant day marked over two centuries of dedicated service in translating, publishing, and distributing the Holy Scriptures to people of all languages and communities in India.

The staff started the day with Thanksgiving service in the morning at 9:00 am in the Hall Road office, with a time of praise, prayer, testimonies of gratitude and acknowledging God’s continued faithfulness in the mission of spreading God’s Holy Word across India. The General Secretary Rev Kavito G. Zhimo delivered an inspiring message, highlighting the rich history and impact of BSI, emphasizing the importance of Bible translation, distribution, and engagement in transforming lives. Special prayers were offered for BSI’s leadership, staff, volunteers, and supporters, thanking God for their commitment and seeking His guidance for the future.

In the afternoon, the Bible Society of India – Central Office, in collaboration with the Karnataka Auxiliary, hosted this event at St. Andrew’s Church (CSI) Community Hall on February 21, 2025, centered on the theme “The Journey of Bible Translation.” The program commenced with a Fellowship Tea at 3:30 p.m., followed by a session expertly facilitated by Dr. Hrangthan Chhungi. The General Secretary of BSI, Rev. Dr. Kavito G. Zhimo welcomed the gathering and introduced the key speaker, Rev. Dr. Dexter S. Maben, and respondent, Rev. Dr. Subramani N. The event featured greetings and prayers by Very Rev. Msgr. S. Jayanathan, the Vicar General of the Bangalore Archdiocese.

Rev. Dr. Dexter Maben delivered an engaging lecture tracing the Bible translation from ancient Manuscripts to this day with specific reference made to the Kannada Bible Translation, followed by an insightful response from Rev. Dr. Subramani N on translation projects. Rev. Shashikala Alva led a dynamic discussion, with audience participation through thought-provoking questions on the significance of Bible translation touching on the transformative and justice issues that the Bible translations bring into human lives. The event concluded with a prayer, and a benediction by Rev. Dr. Kavito G. Zhimo, marking a meaningful and impactful gathering.

Nationwide Observances:

Across India, all BSI Auxiliaries commemorated this historic day with seminars on Bible translation, and outreach initiatives, emphasizing the collective responsibility of Churches in spreading God’s Word. A key highlight in several Auxiliaries was the distribution of free Bibles to marginalized communities, reaffirming BSI’s commitment to making God’s Word accessible to everyone, irrespective of social or economic background.

The Aizawl Auxiliary hosted the event at Khatla Presbyterian Church Hall on February 21, 2025. The Auxiliary President Rev. Dr. Vanlalnghaka Ralte chaired the session.  Mrs. C. Zothankimi led the gathering with Bible reading and prayer, followed by a presentation on ‘BSI Ministry’ by Rev. Remlalfaka, the Auxiliary Secretary. A discussion session was moderated by Elder Denghmingthanga, Coordinator of the CPRRM Sub-committee of the Aizawl Auxiliary and concluded the programme with prayer. The event saw a great and enthusiastic participation from BSI members and Aizawl Auxiliary committees.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands held the event at The Indian Pentecostal Church of God, Port Blair, on February 23, 2025. Chaired by Rev. T. Selvaraj, the event featured a welcome address, prayer, and worship, followed by a keynote speech by Rev. Dr. Raja Wilson on the theme “BSI ministry, God’s faithfulness, and the legacy of Mary Jones”. A total of 103 Bibles were distributed in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and English. Rev. Joseph Raj highlighted BSI’s Bible translation work and encouraged Churches to observe Bible Sunday. The program concluded with prayers, a vote of thanks, and a benediction, followed by refreshments. The lecture strengthened BSI’s mission and inspired future ministry efforts.

The Bible Society of India, Calcutta Auxiliary joyfully celebrated its 214th Foundation Day on February 21, 2025, at Bible House, Kolkata. The event was attended by esteemed guests, committee members, Mary Jones Women’s Fellowship members, youth, staff, and well-wishers. The program began at 11:00 AM with an opening prayer by Rev. Martin Pakhare, followed by spiritual hymns led by Mr. Indradip Sarkar. Rev. Soma Bhatkar warmly welcomed the attendees, and special greetings were shared by various committee members, highlighting the impact of Bible translation and distribution. The Mary Jones Women’s Committee presented a special song, adding a worshipful touch.

The main message, delivered by Rev. Samuel Davis, recounted Mary Jones and her Bible, emphasizing the importance of making Scripture accessible. Rev. Akash Mondal gave a presentation on the mission and work of BSI, detailing its translation and distribution efforts. The congregation participated in an offertory hymn, followed by a closing prayer and benediction from Rev. Tapash Mondal. The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and tea fellowship, marking a joyful and blessed occasion that reaffirmed commitment to spreading God’s Word.

The BSI, Jabalpur Auxiliary observed the BSI Formation Day – Mary Jones Public Lecture on February 21, 2025, at Bible House, Jabalpur. Rev. Vishal Solomon from Full Gospel Church delivered a sermon on “Reading the Word of God as Worship”, focusing on Luke 1:30-35 and 1 Kings 18:41-46. He highlighted Mary’s acceptance of God’s call as a symbol of humankind’s redemption and Elijah’s prayer for rain as a sign of God’s blessings. He encouraged Mary Jones Women’s Fellowship members to devoutly read and live by the Word of God. The prayer service was a blessed experience, concluding with thanksgiving for BSI’s 214-year journey.

The BSI, Odisha Auxiliary spent time with an opening prayer and reflection on God’s goodness led by Rev. Brajendra Kumar Kauri, Secretary of BSI Odisha Auxiliary, led the session and shared a message from Isaiah 55:10-11 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17, emphasizing the impact of BSI’s work. The gathering included a special time of intercessory prayer, remembering Mary Jones and her legacy. The event concluded with praise and thanksgiving to God for a blessed time of fellowship.

The Tamil Nadu Auxiliary celebrated BSI’s 214th Foundation Day with the theme “Celebrating the Everlasting Word.” A Thanksgiving Service was held at CSI Lite Transfiguration Chapel on February 21, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, marking a meaningful time of worship and gratitude.

The Telangana Auxiliary hosted a lecture on “Divinity and Dignity – A Biblical Reflection on Disability” on February 21, 2025, at Bible House, Secunderabad, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Neredimalli Annavarm, Assistant Professor of Sociology, University of Hyderabad, was the keynote speaker. The lecture focused on BSI’s impact on the visually impaired community, highlighting the role of Braille and Audio Bibles in strengthening their faith and spirituality.

To mark the occasion, the Bombay Auxiliary staff had a prayer and Bible Study reflecting on the goodness of God in the life and ministry of the BSI

To mark BSI’s 214th Formation Day, the Dimapur Auxiliary released the Liangmai Masanbo Bible (Second Edition) on February 15, 2025, at Liangmai Baptist Church, Dimapur. Rev. Dr. Alungbou Newmai, Secretary of Liangmai Christian Literature Society (LCLS), Manipur & Nagaland, chaired the event. The history of Liangmai Bible translation was highlighted, tracing its journey from the formation of the Christian Literature Committee in 1955 to the release of the first Liangmai Bible in 2001, followed by a revised edition in 2015. After a request for further revision in 2019, the second edition was completed and released in 2025.

Mrs. Meyijungla from BSI Shillong Translation Centre appreciated the efforts of the Chief Editor, Review Committee, and supporters, urging continued support for Bible translation. Rev. Dr. Yiepetso Wezah, BSI Dimapur Auxiliary Secretary, officially released the Bible, encouraging believers to read and meditate on God’s Word. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Rev. Kitanwi Chewang, Chairman of LCLS, and a benediction by Rev. Kamwang Rentta, Former Secretary of LCLS, Manipur & Nagaland. The celebration reaffirmed the unity and dedication of Liangmai Christians in preserving God’s Word in their heart language.

In conclusion, the 214th Formation Day of the Bible Society of India was a testament to God’s faithfulness and the unwavering commitment of BSI in spreading the Word of God. The Mary Jones Public Lecture and nationwide celebrations reinforced the Society’s mission of serving the Church in India by providing the Bible in different languages and formats. The event inspired renewed dedication among all participants to carry forward this divine calling.

As BSI steps into another year of its journey, it remains committed to its mission of bringing the Bible to every home and heart in India, continuing the legacy of Mary Jones and all those who have labored for the cause of the Scriptures.

The Intrinsic Value of God’s Love to Human Love for One Another  

God’s love is the ultimate foundation for human relationships, shaping how we love one another with sincerity, compassion, and selflessness. The Bible teaches that “God is love” (1 John 4:8), meaning that God’s very nature is love itself. This divine love is not based on merit but is unconditional, sacrificial, and redemptive. When we experience God’s love, it transforms our hearts, enabling us to extend grace and kindness to others. Human love, when rooted in God’s love, becomes more than just emotions or fleeting affections. It reflects the depth of patience, forgiveness, and humility that Christ demonstrated. Jesus commanded His followers, “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34), setting the standard for how we should treat others – with the same self-giving and unwavering commitment He showed.

Without God’s love as the foundation, human love often falls into selfishness, conditionality, and inconsistency. However, when we allow God’s love to work through us, it becomes a powerful force that fosters unity, healing, and reconciliation. True love seeks the well-being of others, just as Christ gave Himself for humanity. Ultimately, the intrinsic value of God’s love is that it empowers us to love others deeply, forgivingly, and unconditionally. It is only through God’s love that we can truly reflect God’s image in our relationships, making the world a more compassionate and just place.

As the “Valentine’s Day” is just round the corner, a lot of expression of love will be going around again through social media. There is no harm in expressing our love for other/s openly, but the question is the genuineness of the love that we expressed openly. If we truly mean it, then it is something we should be endorsing, if not, our expression of love will have no value to the person whom we are trying to show it. Let us have the courage to be truthful and genuine when we love someone as Christ loves us.

RANCHI AUXILIARY

We thank God for his abundant grace for a new beginning and adding another New Year. Our gratitude to God is expressed through reaching out to children in the remote areas within our Auxiliary. On 20^th January 2025, school bags were distributed to school going children at a place called Kondra and on 22^nd January at a place called Amgaon.  Both places are about 120 km away from Ranchi city. In Kondra 25 school bags and in Amgaon 35 school bags were distributed. Village school going children were very happy to receive the bags. It was just a small gesture to spread Gods love among the children.

            24^th January 2025 was a blessed day; we had an opportunity to visit St. Michel School for the blind in Ranchi. We distributed 50 braille calendars to the students. It was such a joy to see them. As they received the calendars in their hand, their fingers began to roll down on the letters with smiles. Besides regular curriculum activities and studies, the children are also taught music and computers. Thank God for his wonderful plan for the children.

NEW BRANCH FORMATION

BSI Chelachuvadu Branch: The Chelachuvadu Branch in Idukki Region is formed as the 153^rd Branch in Kerala Auxiliary at CSI Church Chelachuvadu on 15^th December 2024. Rev Josline P Chacko presided over the meeting, and Dr. Josemon George, Regional Co-ordinator gave the introductory message. Rt. Rev. V S Francis, Auxiliary Vice President inaugurated the Branch, and the Auxiliary Secretary gave the Key Note address. The Auxiliary Treasurer- Dr. Sabu T Thomas, Clergies, Pastors, and members from various Churches attended the meeting. The following leaders were elected as office bearers: President: Rev. Josline P. Chacko, Secretary: Mr. James P. Sam, Treasurer: Mr. George Yeshavu, and committee members were also elected.

BSI Munnar Branch:

The Munnar Branch in Ernakulam East Region is formed as the 154^th Branch in Kerala Auxiliary at St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church, Munnar on 17^th December 2024. Rev. P. K. Mammen (President, Adimaly Branch) presided over the meeting, and Chev. Prof. Baby M. Varghese gave the introductory message. The Auxiliary Secretary inaugurated the Branch. The Auxiliary Treasurer- Dr. Sabu T Thomas; Dr. W. J. Cherian, Regional Co-ordinator; Auxiliary Committee Members- Adv. P. V. Cherian, Er. John Minu Mathew, Er. Mrs. Suja Annie Mathew, Branch Officials- Adv. T. J George, Mr. Anil George, Asst. Marketing Officer, Mr. Elson Paul, Clergies, and Pastors greeted the event. Members from various churches attended the meeting. The following leaders were elected as office bearers: President: Rev. Ritto Reji, Vicar, Munnar Mar Thoma Church, Secretary: Adv. Pastor Johnly Joshy, IPC Church, Treasurer: Dr Mohan Babu, Orthodox Church and committee members were also elected.

BSI Mankulam Unit  (Adimaly Branch): The long-awaited desire to start a unit at Mankulam under Adimaly Branch came true on 16^th January 2025. God was gracious to form Mankulam Unit in the Meeting held at the Garden Hills Public School, Mankulam. BSI Adimaly Branch President- Rev. P. K. Mammen inaugurated the Unit. Mr. Anil George- Adimaly Branch Secretary, Mr. O. M. Elias, and other Branch members led the meeting. Pastor Thomas was selected as the Convenor for Mankulam Unit. We appreciate the leadership and active involvement of Mr. Arun K. Paul, Director of Garden Hills School, who played a significant role in the formation of the unit, along with everyone who worked behind the scenes.

REGIONAL MEETINGS                   

Malappuram Region:

The Meeting was held on 4^th January 2025, at the Bible Bhavan, Nilambur; presided over by the Regional Vice President, Pastor Varghese Mathew. The Auxiliary Secretary delivered the keynote address and the priests and pastors greeted the gathering. Mementos and awards were given to the donors. We congratulate the Malappuram Region for reaching the first position at the Auxiliary level by collecting Rs.26,97,704/- in the financial year 2023- 2024. We express our gratitude for the sincere prayers and hard work of the Regional Co-ordinator, Mr. K. Franklin. We thank the Regional President, Rev. T. V. Thomas for his blessed leadership and the efforts of all the region/branch leaders and members.

Thrissur Region:

The Meeting was held on 10^th December 2024, at Mar Thoma Mandiram, Thrissur. H. B. Mar Awgin Kuriakose, Metropolitan, Chaldean Church of the East inaugurated the event and the Auxiliary Secretary delivered the keynote address. The meeting was blessed with the active participation of priests, pastors, and branch office bearers from six branches. The meeting was effectively organized by the Regional Co-ordinator, Mr. M. C. George.

Idukki Region:

The Meeting was held on 5^th December 2024, at St. George CSI Church, Pallikunnu. The meeting was chaired by BSI Peerumedu Branch President- Rev. Suneesh P. Divakaran and was inaugurated by CSI East Kerala Peerumedu District Chairman- Rev. A. T. John; the Auxiliary Secretary delivered the keynote address. The meeting witnessed active participation and discussion among the branch office bearers. The meeting was successfully organized by Regional Co-ordinator Dr. Josmon George and Rev. Liju Abraham, Vicar of the CSI Church, Pallikkunnu.

MARY JONES PUBLIC MEETING

The 2^nd Mary Jones Women’s Fellowship Retreat of Kerala Auxiliary was held at Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church, Kottayam on 1st February 2025. Most Rev. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos Metropolitan, former Auxiliary President inaugurated the event. The Bishop spoke that we are gathered today because of the courageous and hard work of Mary Jones, a girl from Wales, England, who in the 1800s dedicated herself to acquiring the Word of God. The Metropolitan has called on women members to embrace the challenge of becoming the ‘Mary Jones’ of our time. They are encouraged to prioritize the importance of spreading the Word of God and to shine as defenders of the faith within their homes, communities, and Churches. Rev. D. S. Arun, CSI South Kerala based on the theme, “Women as the custodian of faith in home and society” gave the keynote message. Prof. Mary Mathew, Dr. Sally Jacob, and Mrs. Maria Jacob took various sessions. Prof. Mary Madam (General Secretary, Marth Mariam Vanitha Samajam -Women’s Wing of Orthodox Church of India) inspired the gathering by sharing personal experiences of her grandmother teaching the faith to her children and challenged the women to praise God for what they have instead of complaining about what they do not have. Mrs. Maria Jacob (Soumya), a visually challenged woman, redefined the ‘challenges’ as an art and a divine pathway for our lives. Dr. Sally Jacob delivered the concluding message. Rev. Jogy Oommen Philip, Rev. Shibu Mathew, Rev. Jacob Antony Koodathinkal, and Rev. P. S. Yesudasan partook in the Meeting. We appreciate the dynamic leadership of Dr Sabu T. Thomas, Auxiliary Treasurer, Auxiliary Committee Members- Adv. P. V. Cherian, Er John Minu Mathew, Central Council Members- Er. Suja Annie Mathew, Chev. Dr. Koshy M George, Mrs. Babita Santhosh; and for the sacrificial efforts of Mr. Jacob Cherian, Mrs. Reeba John, branch members, and Auxiliary staff behind the successful functioning of this program. “ENTERING 2025 WITH GRATITUDE AND HOPE”   

As we stand at the threshold of a new year, 2025, let us take a moment to reflect on the goodness of our God. We have made it through another year, and it’s only by God’s grace that we are alive today.

As the Psalmist (100:4-5) sings, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”  Let us be reminded to enter God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise, as we begin this New Year.

 Let us cultivate a heart of gratitude and be thankful for:-

1. God’s Faithfulness: God has been faithful to us throughout the past year 2024, providing for our needs and guiding us through life’s challenges.
2. New Beginnings: A new year brings new opportunities, a chance to start anew, and to make positive changes in our lives.
3. Hope and Expectation: We look forward to what God has in store for us, trusting that God’s plans are good and that He will continue to guide us.

As we reflect on the past year, 2024, we give thanks to God for His immense blessings upon the Ministry of the Bible Society of India. 

We praise and thank God for:-

– Widespread Scripture distribution all over the country: Reaching out to thousands with the Word of God through printed Bibles, Braille Bibles, Audio Bibles, Bible tracks and portions.

– Life-transforming programs: Empowering communities through literacy, education, and outreach initiatives.

– Partnerships and collaborations: Uniting with Churches, organizations, and individuals to advance God’s Kingdom.

We look forward to the year 2025 with hope and expectation, may God deepen our roots in His Word and Strengthen our faith; Expand our reach and impact by touching more lives with the Gospel; Unite us in prayer and purpose by guiding us as we serve together. As in the Wedding of Cana, may our Lord Jesus Christ fill the empty jars of our heart and mind with an immeasurable degree of quantity and quality of His Essence to give our best for God.

BSI STAFF HOLY COMMUNION SERVICE – JANUARY 7, 2025

The staff of Bible Society of India – LOGOS, The Book Room, the Warehouse, William Carey Centre and the Karnataka Auxiliary gathered at the Logos to celebrate the Holy Communion. The Order of Service was prepared by CPRRMD, the Co-Celebrants Rev. Dr. N. Subramani and Rev. Shashikala Alva B S jointly led the service.

Following the Order of Service, Opening Hymn, Confession and the Absolution was conducted. Bible Reading was led by Mr. Tinku George, Director, Finance. The message was delivered by Rev. Dr. Kavito H. Zhimo, GS, BSI based on the Scriptural text of Philippians 4: 6 &7.  He said we should not dwell on the past, nor mull or be anxious about the future but be in the moment. If we focus our thoughts only on the past or the future, we will miss or fail to recognize the God given opportunities in front of us. There will be no growth or progress.

No matter what has happened in the past or what will occur in the future, we should be thankful to God for bringing us to this moment and all the blessings we have received in the past year. We can experience the peace of God which passeth all understanding, aligning our hearts and minds to His plan and purpose.

Following the Intercessory Prayer by Mr. Paul Stephen, Sr. Director, Publishing & Marketing, BSI, the Staff participated in the Holy Communion.

The session ended with the Hymn: Holy Words long preserved” followed by the Lord’s Prayer and Benediction.

Blessing and Thanksgiving in the Midst of Challenges in Life

November is often a time of thanksgiving and reflection of what God has done and being doing for us, and it’s a great opportunity to focus on Christian spiritual blessings.

 The Blessing of God’s Peace

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:6-7

This passage reminds us of the incredible blessing of God’s peace, which is beyond human understanding. It invites us to bring everything – our joys, worries, and needs – to God in prayer, but not just with requests. Thanksgiving is a vital component. This passage is a profound encouragement from the Apostle Paul, offering a roadmap for overcoming anxiety and experiencing God’s peace. Let us try to understand what Apostle Paul means when he wrote this text to the people of Philippians and for us today:-

1. “Do not be anxious about anything”

Paul begins with a command not to worry. Anxiety is a natural response to uncertainty, but Paul directs believers to trust God instead of being consumed by fear. This does not mean ignoring challenges but recognizing that God is sovereign and able to handle every situation.

2. “But in everything by prayer and supplication”

Instead of worrying, Paul urges believers to take everything—big or small—to God in prayer. Prayer refers to general communication with God, while supplication emphasizes earnest, specific requests. It shows that God cares about the details of our lives and invites us to share them with Him.

3. “With thanksgiving”

Thanksgiving is the attitude that transforms our prayers. When we thank God for God’s faithfulness in our life experience and the countless blessings that we received, it builds trust in God’s ability to provide for the future. Gratitude shifts our focus from problems to God’s goodness and power.

4. “Let your requests be made known to God”

This phrase reminds us that God wants us to come to Him openly and honestly. It’s an act of faith to lay our concerns before Him, trusting that God hears and will act according to His perfect will.

5. “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding”

The result of this prayerful, thankful approach is God’s peace. This is not merely the absence of trouble but a deep, abiding sense of well-being and security in God. It’s a peace that goes beyond human comprehension, as it is rooted in God’s unchanging nature rather than changing circumstances.

6. “Will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”

God’s peace acts like a protective shield, guarding our emotions (“hearts”) and thoughts (“minds”) against fear and doubt. This guarding happens in Christ Jesus, highlighting the relationship believers have with Him as the source of this peace.

When we submit our problems to God with thanksgiving, it shifts our focus from our problems to God’s faithfulness. When we acknowledge what God has done for us, our hearts are filled with gratitude and confidence in God’s ability to handle what lies ahead. God’s peace is a gift that guards both our hearts and minds. While the world may be turbulent at this moment – be it sickness in the family, war as it is prolonged in the Middle East or communal violence as it is escalating again in the State of Manipur, in all these circumstances, even as we are the victims of these turbulence whether physically or mentally,  the divine peace assures us that we are secure in Christ. It’s a reminder that God’s blessings are not just material but deeply spiritual, transforming our inner world even in the midst of challenges and pain.

In this season, let us thank God not only for God’s provision but also for God’s steadfast presence, guiding peace, and the privilege given to us of casting our worries and cares on God who walks through the pain and challenges with us. Knowing that our God is in our midst and gives us the assurance that our troubles will come to an end.

BOMBAY AUXILIARY

Bombay Auxiliary Bible Exhibition cum sale in Kolhapur City in Maharashtra

 A three days Bible exhibition was opened on November 8, 2024 and the inaugural programme was held at the Wilder Memorial Church Hall by Auxiliary Secretary of BSI Bombay Auxiliary. On this occasion, BSI staff members, BSI Bombay Auxiliary committee members Rev. D. B. Samudre and Mrs. Mrudula Ghodke, Kolhapur Church Councils’ executive committee members and pastors and leaders of various denominations in Kolhapur were present. The Auxiliary Secretary and staff members of BSI Bombay Auxiliary were felicitated. The exhibition was held from 8^th to 11^th of November, 2024 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

BSI Kolhapur Branch Youth Committee was Formed:

On the 9^th,  Auxiliary Secretary Rev. Clement Christian conducted a special meeting for local youth at Wilder Memorial Church at 11:00 am. Nearly 30 young people were present. The youth were enlighted with the Ministry of the BSI and the Secretary also share the Word for the youth. Significantly, the Kolhapur Bible Society of India Youth Committee was formed on this day.

BSI Kolhapur Branch Mary Jones Women Fellowship was Formed:

BSI Kolhapur Branch was Reformed:

After COVID 19 the BSI Kolhapur branch stopped functioning. On the 9^th evening at 5:30 pm, a volunteers meeting was convened and praise be to God the BSI Kolhapur Branch was reformed again.

Bible Sunday Celebrated:
