The Bible Society of India operates within the territory of India and is the largest and one of the oldest of the 150+ National Bible Societies under the United Bible Societies. Besides the Central Office in Bangalore, we have 17 Auxiliaries, 1 Translations Centre at Shillong.

Aizawl Auxiliary initially began on first June, 1978 as an Associate Auxiliary of the Shillong Auxiliary. However, the Auxiliary gained full-fledged status in recognition of the diversity of languages and varied ethnic backgrounds of the people with their own respective special needs for Scriptures to be catered to.
The Auxiliary has produced Bibles and New Testaments in several languages covered by the Auxiliary operations. Presently, the Auxiliary works closely with as many as 31 Church denominations.
The Aizawl Auxiliary has been consistently at the forefront in mobilisation of monetary resources to support the Bible Work.

The Andhra Pradesh Auxiliary came into being in 1951. The existing Bible House in Hyderabad had been in operation since 1938. The Bible house was also the headquarters of the Auxiliary since 1951.
Through the length and breadth of the State, over 150 BSI Branches and Mary Jones Fellowships operate with individual office bearers and members who voluntarily raise substantial amount of contributions every year for the cause of the Bible. Over the years the Auxiliary has proved to be one of the leading arms of the Bible Society Movement in India in distribution of Scriptures to Telugu speaking people. The Auxiliary celebrated the centenary of the complete Telugu Bible in the year 1960.

The Allahabad Auxiliary (formerly Uttar Pradesh Auxiliary) originally started functioning as a branch of the Calcutta Auxiliary for the purpose of distribution of Scriptures. This branch, which originally took shape in Banaras, later moved on to Agra. From 1845, it started functioning independently as the Allahabad Auxiliary. The year 1861 saw the shift from free distribution of Scriptures to sales. In the course of time, a depot for Bible operations was opened in Allahabad and it continues to remain to date the headquarters for the auxiliary.

The History of the Calcutta Auxiliary coincides with the history of the Bible Society of India in its beginning. It was established on 21st February 1811. In later years, in the post independence era, the Calcutta Auxiliary became one of the auxiliaries to function within the jurisdiction of the operation of the Bible Society of India. Significantly the Auxiliary still functions from the same old stately building on Jawaharlal Nehru Road (Chowringhee Road) in Calcutta, as it has done 200 years ago.
The Auxiliary now concentrates on Bible work in West Bengal and Sikkim.

Dimapur Auxiliary was inaugurated on 6th November 1985 as Associate Auxiliary. Later it was upgraded as full fledged Auxiliary on 23rd November 1986. Its area of operation is Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Karbi Anglong dealing with 111 tribes. The Dimapur Auxiliary is able to reach unreached people with the word of God. This brings better and close understanding among the people that is in God’s word through Jesus Christ.
For several people groups in the Dimapur area it is the scripture in its written form which has helped reduce their respective languages into writing by way of standardization of vocabulary, grammar and orthography. Among the various languages Bibles published so far in 36 dialects, New Testament in 25 dialects, children’s Bible in 7 dialects and Study Bible in one dialect.
This Auxiliary has a dedicated volunteer force including women and youth.

The Gujarat Auxiliary of the Bible Society of India came into being in December 1969, located in Ahmedabad. The newly built Bible House was dedicated in February 1980. Apart from this, the Auxiliary also maintains centers at Baroda and Vyara to cater to the Scripture needs of this vast area and the growing Church. The Showroom at Bible House serves the Scripture needs of Christian community & non-Christian visitors.

The Bible Society of India at Jabalpur initially started as a Development Office, in 1985, and considering the need of the Christians on 1st November 1986, the Madhya Pradesh Auxiliary was established, functioning from the famous “Pilikothi”, of the Methodist Church, under the leadership of Rev. The Karnataka Auxiliary of the Bible Society of India came into being in 1945. However, The Kannada Bible in a single volume printed in Bellary Mission Press was made available for the first time in the year 1830 itself.
The beauty of the Karnataka Auxiliary lies in the heritage building which is situated at the beginning of Mahatma Gandhi Road, Bangalore. In 1953, the first President of India, Dr. Babu Rajendra Prasad and the first Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr. Kengal Hanumanthaiah visited the Auxiliary. In 1961 Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited the Auxiliary and were presented with a copy of the Bible in Hindi.
The Karnataka Auxiliary has already published more than 33 varieties of Kannada Bible, including the Kannada Study Bible, the Kannada Royal size Bible and Compact Bible with red letter edition and also two varieties (Compact & Demy size) in Korean T/I edition. The Bilingual (Diglot) Bible (English and Kannada) was released on 17th October 2015 and is now available in three varieties.
At present, the Auxiliary has taken up a project for printing a portion of the Bible in Pareer language – a combination of three languages i.e. Kannada, Tamil and Telugu which is spoken among a particular community. The Auxiliary is also working on the Kannada Audio Bible, which is to be released in 2018
The Auxiliary continues to serve the Kannada speaking people and their increasing Scripture needs.

Kerala Auxiliary was inaugurated on 30th June 1956 with the motto, “A Bible for every Christian home in Kerala,” with its headquarters at Kottayam, the place where the first book in Malayalam -St Matthew’s gospel- was printed. Prior to this, the activities of the Bible Society in Kerala was carried out through the Madras Auxiliary. The first president of the Auxiliary was the bishop of CSI, Rt. Rev. C.K. Jacob, and the first secretary Rev. Thomas Cherian. The Bible House, the three storied building of the of the Auxiliary in the heart of Kottayam town was completed in 1971 which houses the Auxiliary offices, Bible showroom, the Warehouse, Auxiliary Secretary’s residence and Conference Hall. It serves as the hub for scripture distribution for the whole state of Kerala.

A Bible depot was opened in 1953 at Delhi and the Bible Society activities started. The North West India Auxiliary with its base in Delhi caters to the Scripture needs of North West region of our country. This auxiliary handles Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, and Kashmiri Scriptures.

The Bible Society work formally began in Shillong with the opening of a branch of the Calcutta Auxiliary in the year 1952. It became Assam Auxiliary in 1956 with its area of operations extending to the whole of North Eastern parts of India. In order to facilitate easier movement of Scriptures to the remote parts of the difficult terrain covered by the Auxiliary, a Scriptures Distribution Centre was opened in Guwahati in 1973 in a land gifted by CBCNEI. After the formal inauguration of the Aizawl Auxiliary in 1983 and Dimapur Auxiliary in 1986, Shillong Auxiliary now caters to the Scripture needs of the state of Assam and Meghalaya. The Shillong Auxiliary celebrated the Golden Jubilee during 10th – 12th November 2006. The Pohkseh Presbyterian Church hosted the celebration. The Aizawl & Dimapur Auxiliaries sent their representatives to this celebration and joined together in the celebration with the Auxiliary Secretaries.

The Tamil Nadu Auxiliary (Madras Auxiliary Bible Society) came into being on 20th May 1820. This is a culmination of several Bible groups already in operation in and around Chennai (Madras). Starting from the times of Ziegenbalg till the modern era, The Tamil Nadu (Madras) Auxiliary has always led the way in being at the forefront of facilitating Bible translation work. The first New Testament published in South Asia was Tamil language in the year 1714 and Tamil Bible was published in 1728. On 31st March 1711 Ziegenbalg completed translating the New Testament. Tamil Nadu Auxiliary looks after the Scripture needs of Tamil Nadu State and the Union Territory of Pondicherry.

The Telangana Auxiliary formation goes in line with the bifurcation of the united Andhra Pradesh into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. The UPA (Union) Government in its cabinet meeting held on 7th February 2014 had cleared the bill for the creation of Telangana State and June 2nd 2014 was declared as Telangana state formation day. Subsequently the BSI working committee had engaged in a study on feasibility to create Telangana Auxiliary, bifurcating the Andhra Pradesh Auxiliary. The Executive Committee at its meeting held on 1st September 2014 and later on 9th September 2015 had considered the recommendations of the study, modalities involved in bifurcation and placed the same proposals before the Central council.
At the Central council meeting held on 28th & 29th January 2016, it was unanimously approved to bifurcate the Andhra Pradesh Auxiliary and to create Telangana Auxiliary. It was further resolved to inaugurate the Andhra Pradesh Auxiliary on 1st February 2016, Guntur as its head quarters and to inaugurate Telangana Auxiliary on 3rd February 2016,
