Witnessing Christ on Disability Sunday: The power of Scripture

During the Sunday Evening Service at Durtlang Presbyterian Church on June 21, 2026, on a special Sunday observed as Disability Sunday, the congregation witnessed a deeply moving moment that stirred hearts and strengthened faith. An 8-year-old boy, Roni Rinzuala Ralte, stood before the church, all pews filled with keen listener with awe and recited Matthew Chapter 1 in Mizo, entirely from memory.

Roni has been blind since birth. Yet, what he cannot see with his eyes, he has embraced fully in his heart. Through the Audio Bible in Mizo, freely distributed by the Aizawl Auxiliary of the Bible Society of India to deserving people with health challenges, Roni has encountered the living Word of God in a powerful and personal way. By listening again and again, he has not only memorized passages but has internalized Scripture—so much so that he can confidently recite even complex genealogies and portions from both the New and Old Testaments.

Roni is the youngest of four siblings. Though his parents are separated, he is lovingly cared for by his mother, Mrs. H. Lalnipari, whose faith and perseverance continue to shape his life. Today, Roni is studying in Class 1 at Samaritan Blind School, Durtlang Venglai, Aizawl, where he continues to grow in knowledge and faith.

His story is more than a testimony—it is a powerful witness to how God’s Word transcends barriers. The Audio Bible has become his companion, his teacher, and his source of strength.

This inspiring moment reminds us of the immeasurable value of Scripture Engagement. The ministry of distributing Audio Bibles is not merely about access, it is about transformation. Through such efforts, the Bible Society of India continues to bring light into lives, proving that even in physical darkness, the Word of God shines brightly, guiding hearts and changing destinies.

BRAILLE BIBLE: SIGHT THROUGH SCRIPTURE

When Mr. Veeresh, a resident of Bangalore, a visually challenged believer, received his first Braille Bible from the Bible Society of India, Karnataka Auxiliary, his trembling fingers gently traced the raised dots as though he had discovered hidden treasure. Each touch was sacred. Each word, alive. Day and night, he read aloud, his voice filling the silence, encountering Jesus not just as words on a page, but as a living presence in his life. What began as a personal journey soon became a light for others. People gathered around him, drawn by his passion and conviction. One Bible became a classroom. One life became a testimony. Though his physical eyes could not see, the Word of God illuminated his heart in ways beyond sight. Darkness could not conceal the truth, it only made the light shine brighter.

Veeresh shares with deep emotion – Faith was never part of my upbringing. In my home, blindness was not just a condition, it was spoken of as a curse. When my younger brother was also born blind, that sense of despair only deepened. I grew up questioning everything, even doubting the existence and goodness of God. But everything changed the moment I first touched the Word of God in Braille. What began as curiosity slowly became something more. As I read, I felt as though the Scriptures were reading me, speaking into my doubts, my fears, and the emptiness I carried inside. Little by little, my heart began to change. I cannot explain it fully, but I felt a quiet transformation taking place within me. Where there was confusion, I found clarity. Where there was fear, I discovered peace. Where there was hopelessness, I encountered purpose.

Today, I stand with a heart full of gratitude. I even thank God for my blindness, because through it, God opened my spiritual eyes. What I once saw as a curse became the very path through which I found God. The Bible has given me hope when I had none, purpose when I felt lost, and courage to face every challenge. I am a living testimony to the transforming power of God’s Word. It has not only changed my life, it is continually shaping me into the person I am meant to be. For this, I will forever remain grateful.

A Living Testimony from Ancient Time to this Day  

The ministry of Jesus Christ is profoundly marked by His compassion and power to heal -body, mind, and spirit. The Gospels present not merely accounts of miracles, but living testimonies of restoration, dignity, and hope for humanity. These same truths continue to transform lives today through the faithful ministry of the Bible Society, which carries the Word of God to the ends of the earth.

In Mark 5:1–15, we encounter a man possessed by many demons, living in isolation, torment, and brokenness in the region of the Gerasenes. Society had rejected him; chains could not restrain him; his life was marked by chaos and suffering. Yet, when Jesus met him, everything changed. With divine authority, Jesus delivered him, and the man was found sitting, clothed, and in his “right mind.” This powerful transformation reminds us that Christ’s healing goes beyond the physical, it restores identity, dignity, and mental wholeness.

Similarly, in Matthew 11:28–29, Jesus extends a timeless invitation: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” In a world increasingly burdened by anxiety, stress, and emotional pain, this promise speaks directly to the human condition. Jesus offers not temporary relief, but deep, abiding rest for the soul.

The Gospel of Matthew further reveals in 8:16–17 that Jesus healed all the sick, fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” This affirms that Christ’s mission was holistic, addressing both physical suffering and spiritual brokenness. His healing ministry is a manifestation of God’s compassion for the whole person.

In Mark 5:25–34, we witness the story of a woman who suffered from a bleeding disorder for twelve long years. Isolated, impoverished, and desperate, she reached out in faith to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. Instantly, she was healed. Jesus’ words to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering,” reveal not only physical healing but emotional restoration and acceptance. She was no longer an outcast but a beloved child.

These powerful encounters with Jesus are not confined to ancient history alone. Today, the Word of God continues to carry His healing presence into the lives of millions. This is where the ministry of the Bible Society of India becomes profoundly significant. Through the distribution of Bibles – printed, digital, Audio Bibles, Braille and Sign Language – the message of Christ reaches those who are physically challenged, illiterate, marginalized, or spiritually searching. In places and persons where access to Scripture was once limited, the Word now speaks clearly, bringing comfort to the troubled mind, hope to the broken heart, and strength to the weary soul.

Audio and Braille Bibles, in particular, have become a powerful tool of Scripture engagement. For the visually impaired, the elderly, and those unable to read due to their physical health condition, hearing the Word of God becomes a direct encounter with Christ Himself. As they listen, faith is nurtured, peace replaces anxiety, and lives are transformed – just as in the days when Jesus walked the earth. For visually impaired who learns how to read the Braille, the healing ministry of Jesus continues through His Word. Every Bible distributed is not just a book or gadget, it is a vessel of divine encounter. It carries the voice of the One who still says, “Come to me,” the touch of the One who still heals, and the power of the One who restores completely.

Therefore, the ministry of the Bible Society of India is not only about translation, production or distribution; It is about bringing the healing presence of Christ into homes, hearts, and communities, it is about transformation. As the Word goes forth, it accomplishes its purpose: healing the sick, renewing the mind, and restoring the broken.

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread. So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55: 10 -11)

A Season of Blessing: Opening of 19 New Branches in Mizoram State under Aizawl Auxiliary

It is with deep gratitude to God that we reflect on a remarkable milestone in the life and ministry of the Bible Society of India (BSI), Aizawl Auxiliary. During the months of March to May 2026, the Auxiliary was graciously enabled to open 19 new branches across the length and breadth of Mizoram, a testimony to God’s faithfulness and the growing commitment of God’s people toward the Bible cause. This achievement is not merely an administrative expansion but a spiritual blessing. Each new branch represents a fresh center of mission, a new light for Scripture engagement, and an extended hand of ministry into communities that hunger for God’s Word. It is indeed a privilege for the Aizawl Auxiliary to be entrusted with such growth at this time.

These newly opened branches have already begun functioning effectively from the start of the financial year on April 1, 2026. They have also been entrusted with their respective shares of the projected contributions for the financial year 2026 – 2027. This responsibility reflects both confidence and hope that these branches will actively participate in strengthening the ministry of BSI through faithful stewardship and dedicated service. As we look ahead, we prayerfully commit these new branches and their leaders into God’s hands. May God bless all the branch leaders, volunteers, and members who have stepped forward with willingness and faith. Their role is vital in advancing the mission of the Bible Society, especially in areas such as Contribution, Distribution of Scriptures, Scripture Engagement in various ways, the nurturing work of the Mary Jones Women’s Fellowship, and vibrant youth ministries.

Furthermore, these efforts extend beyond Mizoram into the neighboring states of Assam and Tripura within the area of the Aizawl Auxiliary, strengthening the outreach of Scripture engagement across the region. Through these collective ministries, the Word of God will continue to reach hearts and transform lives. May this season of expansion lead to even greater heights in service and impact. Above all, may every effort bring glory to God and further the cause of the Bible in our land. “To God be the glory, great things He has done.”

A Biblical Reflection on Creation Care, Human Dignity and Justice
(Glancing through the significance of the United Nations’ key observances in the month of June.)

The month of June brings together a series of significant global observances that call humanity to reflect deeply on the state of our world – its environment, its people, and its moral direction. From World Environment Day (June 5) to the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26), these commemorations echo a unified message: the earth and all who dwell in it are in urgent need of care, justice, and restoration.

From a biblical perspective, these themes are not new. They are deeply rooted in God’s original intention for creation and humanity. Scripture consistently calls us to be stewards of the earth, defenders of the oppressed, and bearers of hope in a broken world.

1. Creation Care: Stewardship of Earth, Land, and Sea

World Environment Day (June 5), World Oceans Day (June 8), and the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (June 17) remind us that creation is both a gift and a responsibility. In Genesis 2:15, humanity is entrusted “to till and to keep” the garden. This divine mandate calls for responsible stewardship, not exploitation.

The oceans, forests, and lands are not merely resources; they are part of God’s intricate and “very good” creation (Genesis 1:31). The degradation of ecosystems, pollution of oceans, killing and destroying of the marine lives and desertification of fertile lands reflect a failure in stewardship and a disruption of the eco-balance God designed. Jeremiah 2:7 offers a sobering warning: “I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce. But you came and defiled my land.” Today, climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental destruction echo this prophetic lament. As stewards, we are called to restore balance by protecting marine life, conserving land, and adopting sustainable practices that honor the Creator.

2. Human Dignity: Protecting the Vulnerable

Several June observances focus on human suffering and injustice: World Day Against Child Labour (June 12), World Refugee Day (June 20), and the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture (June 26). These highlight the ongoing struggles faced by millions worldwide.

The Bible consistently upholds the dignity of every human being, created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Child labor, human trafficking, and exploitation violate this sacred truth. Jesus’ words, “Let the little children come to me” (Matthew 19:14), remind us that children are to be protected, nurtured, and given the opportunity to grow in a normal environment and flourish to make their dream reality, not burdened with labor and abuse. Refugees – those who do not choose their plight but are driven into it by circumstances – hold a special place in biblical teaching. In Leviticus 19:34, God commands, “The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself.” In a world where displacement is rising due to conflict, climate change, and persecution, this command remains profoundly relevant.

Victims of torture and injustice cry out for healing and justice. Psalm 34:18 assures us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” As followers of Christ, we are called to stand in solidarity with them, offering compassion and advocating for justice for those who have been wronged.

3. Freedom and Restoration: Confronting Addiction and Exploitation

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26) calls attention to the destructive impact of substance abuse and criminal networks. Addiction enslaves individuals, damages families, and erodes communities.

Scripture speaks powerfully about freedom: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free” (Galatians 5:1). This freedom is not only spiritual but also speaks to liberation from all forms of bondage, including addiction and exploitation.

Human trafficking and illicit trade represent modern forms of slavery. Human trafficking is one of the most lucrative illegal industries globally, typically ranking among the top three alongside drug and arms trafficking in terms of profit. The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates it generates over $150 billion annually in illegal profits. A large portion of this comes from forced labor and sexual exploitation. Human Trafficking is one of the most terrifying yet difficult to tackle internationally. Yet, the biblical call to “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8) challenges believers to confront these injustices and work toward systems that uphold life and dignity and it needs systematic collaboration with state authorities, NGOs and individuals to prevent this modern slavery.

4. Wholeness and Public Service

United Nations Public Service Day (June 23) emphasize holistic well-being and the importance of serving others. Public services that aim to make life easier, healthier, and more comfortable for all, whether in the health sector, mental well-being, or social support – play a vital role in nurturing human flourishing. From a biblical perspective, such efforts resonate deeply with the vision of holistic well-being, which is understood as the harmonious integration of body, mind, and spirit.

The Bible affirms that true well-being is not merely physical health or material comfort, but a balanced life where physical needs are met, the mind is at peace, and the spirit is rooted in God. Therefore, initiatives that promote accessible healthcare, mental balance, social justice, good governance and compassionate care for the vulnerable reflect God’s desire for human wholeness. In this sense, public services become more than systems of support, they become instruments of divine care, fostering dignity, restoration, and fullness of life for all people. The Karnataka State held Public work so high and the slogan “Government Work is God’s Work” was born as part of the vision of Karnataka’s former Chief Minister, Shri Kengal Hanumanthaiah’s rule during March 30, 1952, to August 19, 1956. However, the physical engraving was officially added to the building of the Karnataka Secretariat, called Vidhana Soudha, the seat of the state legislature in Bengaluru in December 1980. The building is one of the most beautiful iconic landmark in Bengaluru city.

Jesus’ earthly ministry exemplified service as spiritual healing by offering the eternal life; and physical healing of the sick, feeding the hungry, protecting the vulnerable and uplifting the marginalized. The Bible urges us to all those who are in authority should serve the society and individuals by being rooted in integrity and compassion, thereby reflecting God’s heart for justice and care.

Conclusion: A Call to Faithful Action

These global observances are not merely dates on a calendar; each observance is a call to action. They remind us that caring for creation and upholding human dignity are inseparable responsibilities. The earth, the seas, and all living beings belong to God (Psalm 24:1). Likewise, every human life is precious in the sight of God. As stewards of creation and ambassadors of Christ, we are called to:

• Protect and preserve the environment
• Advocate for justice and human rights
• Care for refugees and the vulnerable
• Combat exploitation, addiction, and trafficking
• Promote healing, peace, and restoration

In this sacred mission, the ministry of the Bible Society of India plays a vital role by faithfully teaching and proclaiming the Word of God. Through its engagement in Scripture translation, publication, distribution, and engagement through worship, preaching, hosting programs and community outreach, the Bible Society of India nurtures the core values of God – creation care, compassion, justice, and human dignity. By equipping individuals and communities with the transformative message of the Bible, it inspires believers to live responsibly, act justly, and participate actively in God’s mission of restoration for both humanity and creation.
