The Resource Mobilisation and Ministry Department of the Bible Society of India conducted One Day Training Programme for Volunteers in order to encourage them to understand the Biblical Response to Gender Issues in their own contexts and to get involved in Scripture Engagement among marginalised people, with the transforming love of Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit. During the period April-June 2012, it was held in Shillong, Bangalore and Aizawl.
The focus of the Workshop was on “Empowering and Equipping Widows, Suffering Women, School Dropout Girls and Boys, and Commercial Sex Workers, through Bible/Scripture Engagement.” The two major outcomes of these workshops are: First, Volunteers themselves are getting involved in Scripture Engagement among these marginalised people, multiplying more Volunteers for the Cause of God’s Word. Second, Widows, Suffering Women, School Dropouts and Commercial Sex Workers are finding hope in the stories, promises and teachings found in the Bible, for a meaningful life on the earth.
Three such workshops were held on 13 April, 02 May and 22 June at the Shillong, Karnataka & Aizawl Auxiliaries respectively under the leadership of Dr. Miss E. Leelavathi Manasseh, Director (Reource Mobilisation & Ministry). Rev. Phidolis Dkhar, Dr. Vasanth Renick & Elder Thangnghilhlova, Auxiliary Secretaries of Shillong, Karnataka & Aizawl Auxiliaries were the local resource persons.
