HISTORY

The Kerala Auxiliary of the Bible Society came into being in the year 1956 with Kottayam as its headquarters. Prior to this the Bible Society work in Kerala was carried on as part of the Madras Auxiliary operations.

Matthew's Gospel in Malayalam was first published in 1824. The New Testament and the Bible were printed in 1829 and 1841 respectively.

PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS:

The work of the Kerala Auxiliary supported by 109 vibrant branches of the Bible Society spread all over the state with all office bearers and workers giving voluntary services. The Scripture Distribution Squad have over 120 volunteer workers including 40 women.

The Auxiliary pledged to sponsor distribution of 1500 Bibles among the needy and persecuted churches in Gujarat and Orissa. In 1991 this auxiliary was at the vanguard of the project "Bible to Russia with Love" dispatching over 8000 Bibles to Russia. In keeping with the vision of the Bible Society of India to go beyond the printed Word of God, this Auxiliary has already made initial forays into television and newspapers.
